4 Reasons Why You Should Be Doing Online Personal Training

Aug 21, 2020 by Michael Fouts, Read time: 4 min.

Before we dive into the benefits, let’s first explain what Online Personal Training is. Online Personal Training is kind of like having a virtual trainer. In a nutshell, we give you all the resources you need, but we just aren’t physically there in-person training you. We have a smartphone and web-based app (you can access everything from your smartphone or the web – your computer) and we put everything that you need on the app/on the web: your workout program, meal plan, etc. Furthermore, we are there for guidance along the way and regularly keeping tabs on you and communicating through the app, text, email, phone, and/or In-person meetings.

So what are the benefits of online personal training? I’m going to talk about the benefits as a whole as it pertains to the industry in general, and also relate it to my company. I’m going to group the benefits into 4 main ones, starting with the most beneficial reasons first – in my personal opinion.

 1. Expertise

With Online Personal Training there isn’t an accessibility issue, you can connect with the best in the fields across the globe. When someone is the best in their field at something, why wouldn’t you have them help you instead of you trying to do it yourself?

Also, something not well advertised is that trainers that do a lot of Online Training often avoid trainer burnout. Trainers in private and commercial often work endlessly to “hit quotas” and always aim to perform better than the month before. This pressure to sell often leads trainers to become overworked, stressed, and burned out. This leads to them offering a lower quality of service. In contrast, Online Trainers don’t always work 12-14 hour days, meaning they’re usually “fresh.” This results in better feedback and coaching, and overall higher quality of service.

2. Ongoing Guidance, Support & Accountability

Having someone to ask questions to along the way and to have as a support system is huge. You don’t need to wait until you see your trainer to get help, you can simply ask your trainer any questions you might have and they’ll answer them. They might even make a video for you which you can save and view later if you need a refresher.

Accountability is key too, knowing that they are checking in with you or watching your workout activity will help keep you accountable and on track.

Lastly, a benefit intertwined in all of the above is that it allows you to become more independent. This will allow you to start being more self-sufficient and less reliant on your trainer. This is a good thing. As a trainer, this Is what I aim to empower my clients with.

“Train your client’s well enough so they can leave. Treat them well enough so they don’t want to”

3. Convenience & Flexibility

With Online Personal Training you can train whenever, and wherever – all with your trainer at your fingertips. Whether you are at the gym, at home, or a hotel, all you need is your smartphone (or laptop) to access your workouts, workout data (including videos of each exercise and how to do them), your meal plan, and access to your trainer; at least with our Online Personal Training this is true, as we have a smartphone app that we run everything through.

Also, scheduling a session with your trainer is no longer an issue and you are no longer constrained to the hour window that your trainer will try to maximize – or prolong in some cases – with you. Do your workout on your time, as quick or as slow as your want, and when it’s convenient for you. You can also save time going to-and-from the gym if you have a gym at home. Or, for those that train at home for reasons related to confidence (eg. feel self-confident about their form of the exercise, etc.), working with a trainer Online first can be a great stepping stone in building your confidence to eventually go to the gym.

Lastly, touching on point #1, if for whatever reason the trainer you want to train with isn’t convenient to get to (their gym is far away, you just moved, etc.) then you can still train with them.

4. Cost

Online Personal Training is a fraction of the price of In-Person Training. Further, you can combine Online Personal Training with In-Person Training (what we call Hybrid Training) to get the best value (eg. see your Trainer once a week, then do 2 other workouts by yourself ).

Of the 4 reasons why is cost last? Well i’m biased here, but I truly think most people don’t put a big enough price on their health. They’ll go buy some new gadget, or brand name item for $500+ but then hesitate one spending even $100/month on something that is good for their health. So, In my eyes it’s an important benefit, but the above are more important.

So there you have it, those are the 4 big benefits – amongst others – from Online Personal Training. Is it the answer for everyone? No, but it’s a great tool for people who need support, guidance, and accountability, but want to capitalize on convenience, flexibility, and affordability. If these are things you value, you should consider adding Online Personal Training to your Fitness regime.
