5 Ways a Personal Trainer Can Help You

There are many ways a Personal Trainer can help you, below are 5 reasons:

1.  They will help you set up an effective workout program for your goals

When I say this, many of you are thinking of a Personal Trainer sitting at his desk wearing a shirt that is likely one size too small and grinning at you and saying “Alright, so what are your goals?”  Yes, the Personal Trainer can be a girl too – obviously – but a tighter shirt on a girl is…well not funny. But in all seriousness, you need to set up an effective workout, and nutrition plan that will help you reach your goals. And, Personal Trainers have the knowledge – most at least – to help you put together the most effective plan for you.

2. They will help you put on muscle

Girls, this is not to be read “bulky” muscle – lifting weights won’t make you bulky.  Putting on, or retaining, lean muscle while losing weight is crucial to keeping weight off after. Simply running on the treadmill won’t do this, you need to incorporate some form of resistance training.

3.  They will help you understand how to effectively do the exercises

A lot of people don’t do weight training because they simply just don’t know what to do and how to do various exercises. A Personal Trainer can help you with this. They’ll show you how to do the exercises, like a squat or a deadlift, in a safe and effective manner. To some, form and technique might not initially seem that important. But those that have been injured know what i’m talking about.

4.  Accountability

Personal Trainers are your accountability partner that’s going to help commit you to the plan; whether that’s them monitoring your calender and messaging you regularly, like with Online Personal Training, or meeting you at the gym.

5.  Motivation

I guarantee you don’t workout as hard by yourself, as you would with a trainer – at least not consistently. Personal Trainers will push you, challenge you, and keep things fun and enjoyable.

Also, this ties into motivation and is somewhat self-serving for the Personal Trainer but many are motivated by paying for something as a form of financial commitment and motivation – they want to see their investment through and make good on it.

Obviously this is a biased perspective, but I think everyone should use a Personal Trainer in some capacity at some point in their fitness journey. I can almost guarantee they will help get you from A –> B (whatever that is for you) faster then you would by yourself.

If I wanted to learn how to do the Salsa dance I’m better off hiring a teacher to teach me, and keep my accountable to practicing the dance, than using self-teaching videos from Youtube; this is what I did before I went to Colombia.

Should you want to hire a trainer, here’s some advice: do your research, interview your prospective trainer, and don’t give much worth to their instagram follower counts – rather focus on their message and the information they put out.

Till next time,

-Mike
