We train clients out of a handful of gyms around Edmonton and the surrounding area, and clients homes – provided they are within 30 minutes of downtown. Now, with the onset of the pandemic, many clients who we previously trained in gyms are opting for In-Home training. This is partially because many of them bought home-gym equipment and need instruction and accountability, but also because they feel more comfortable working out at home instead of the gym – where their potential exposure to COVID is greater.

We thought we’d share some of the more common reasons why someone would do In-Home Personal Training, here are 4:

1. Comfort. Aside from decreasing exposure to COVID, you are able to do everything from the comfort of your home. You also have control over things like temperature, music, and cleanliness. You also don’t have to workout with an audience, which touches on the next point.

2. Privacy. If you’re not confident doing resistance training, or with your physique, it can be intimidating to be in a gym. A common concern amongst new gym-goers is that they think people are watching them and they’re self-conscious about their technique and form. Working out at home solves this problem. If you do an exercise improperly, it doesn’t matter when the trainer audibly corrects you or brings attention to it.

3. Saving time. You can make the most of your time. You save time commuting to and from the gym, and doing everything to prep for the gym: packing your gym clothes, remembering what clothes to change into after, water bottle, towel, etc. – you also won’t forget these things anymore.

4. Convenience: we already touched on two of the main ways In-Home Personal Training can be convenient: saving time and doing everything from the comfort of your home. Another way it’s convenient is if you have small children. You can workout with your trainer while letting them play, instead of having to find someone to take care of them or put them in child-minding or childcare; you’ll also setting a great example to your kids that living and healthy lifestyle is important.

Having an In-Home Personal Trainer can also have enhanced accountability. It’s pretty easy to talk yourself out of a trip to the gym, but when a trainer is coming to your house there are no excuses – for the most part. Another unique thing about In-Home training is obstacle identification. By having the trainer in your house it gives them the opportunity to see the client ‘s environment which is key to understanding obstacle(s).
